There It Is!

Mommy took us down to the capitol building this week so that she could turn in some paperwork to the Secretary of State for the campaign. Luckily Grandma came with her to help because we had lots of energy to expend running around a marble building that makes voices echo wonderfully. Luckily, Harrison and I thoroughly enjoyed the "hunt for the blue tiles."

The story of the blue tiles:
According to legend, 66 Italian artists were involved with the laying of the Terrazzo flooring throughout the Capitol. Most artists like to leave their signature on their art work, however, it was decided that rather than allowing 66 people to sign their name somewhere in the Capitol, each artist was given a special blue stone that would be called their signature stone. Only 55 of the 66 blue stones have been found. Perhaps some were laid where walls, doors, or carpeting cover them.

I actually surprised Grandma and Mommy by finding a few of them. Harrison caught on too and ran around the floor, occasionally squatting down and pointing to a tile and yelling "there it is!" (even though he was usually just pointing to any tile...he actually did find one...).

Harrison's other favorite game was "knock knock." He really likes to knock on doors when they are closed and decided to head straight to the top. He made a visit to the Supreme Court and to the Office of the Governor (notice him knocking on the door labeled PRIVATE -- that would be the Governor's -- let's just hope he wasn't really in that day!)

We got a little tired from all the running around so I decided to take a little rest on a nice little piece of furniture that happens to be over 100 years old. I tried to convince Grandma to lay down with me, but she decided she wasn't too tired!
